Us – Portraits by Shane Bishop

Anthropologists use contemporary portraits to form an understanding of society. In this exhibition artist Shane Bishop portrays Victor Harbor through the faces of those who make up our community. Captured is the joy, passion, and character of us. The mystery, intrigue and depth of us. The compassion, caring and empathy of us. The fun, smiles and laughter of us. The friendship, beauty, and love of us. And the natures of us.

Utilising varying mediums and styles; from oils, to calligraphy brush and inks, to Body Presses where the subject is covered in paint and becomes the tool. Shane has become more interested in the ‘narrative’ inherent in the contemporary portrait; What is happening as well as the Who, and How it makes the viewer Feel. His works hang throughout Australia and Internationally; with many group, retrospective and solo exhibitions; awards include ‘Destig Artist of the Year for Painting in Asia-Pacific’, and a showcase interview in London Art Magazine ‘Destig’ as one of ‘Top 20 Artists to Invest in – 2018’.
